- How do I find schools near my home?
- Type your Eircode in the address box on the homepage. Scoil Scout shows every primary, post-primary and special school within 5 km of your Eircode area, sorted by distance. You can widen the radius up to 100 km in the filter panel.
- What is a DEIS school?
- DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) is a Department of Education programme that gives extra funding, smaller classes and home-school liaison support to schools serving areas with concentrated socioeconomic disadvantage. Scoil Scout flags every DEIS school and lets you filter by DEIS Urban Band 1, Urban Band 2 or Rural.
- Where can I read a school's inspection report?
- Each school's detail page links directly to its published inspection reports on gov.ie. Reports include Whole-School Evaluations and subject-specific inspections going back several years.
- Are there fees to use Scoil Scout?
- No. Scoil Scout is free, has no ads, no accounts and no third-party tracking. We re-use the Department of Education, NCSE and gov.ie open data under the Open Government Licence.
- Can I shortlist and compare schools?
- Yes. Tap the star on any school to add it to your shortlist (up to 20). Switch to compare view to see schools side-by-side on enrolment, pupil-teacher ratio, DEIS status, special-class provision and inspection history. Shortlists stay on your device — no account needed.
- How do I find a Gaelscoil or Educate Together school?
- Use the filter panel to narrow by Gaelscoil (all-Irish-medium) or by patronage body, including Educate Together, Catholic, Church of Ireland, An Foras Pátrúnachta and Education and Training Boards (ETBs).
